Artec 3D develops professional handheld and desktop 3D scanners and the software that turns what they capture into models you can work from. The jewelry bench is one of the places where that gets tested hardest — small, shiny, irreplaceable, and judged by eye at arm's length.
Founded in 2007, headquartered in Luxembourg
Artec 3D was founded in San Diego, California in 2007 and established its headquarters in Luxembourg in 2010. It now works from five locations: Luxembourg, California, Shanghai, Bar in Montenegro, and Tokyo.
The scanners are built in Luxembourg, and the range runs from the desktop Micro II through the handheld Spider II, Eva and Leo to the long-range Ray II and the Point and Jet metrology systems. Artec Studio, now in its twentieth version, is the software all of them feed.
The work divides across four fields: industrial design and manufacturing, healthcare, science and education, and art and design. Jewelry sits in the last of those, and borrows the metrology expectations of the first.
Why a page just about jewelry
Because the generic answer is not much use here. A jeweler asking whether 3D scanning works does not need a tour of the technology; they need to know whether a claw setting resolves, whether a hallmark survives, what the file opens in, and what happens the first time a customer's heirloom is on the platter.
Everything on this site is drawn from projects Artec customers have published — a UK supplier of a hundred years' standing, a German studio casting personalized rings, a Chinese brand designing from hydrangeas, and museums in Melbourne, Tasmania and Bogotá. Where a figure appears, it is theirs and it links back to their account of it.
